Book of the Month
Our forever changing Book of the Month a great read that we want to recommend to you... It might not be on the bestsellers' lists; it might not be a movie-tie-in edition of the latest blockbuster; it might not be from an author (or publisher) that you even recognise. It will, however, be a book that our buyers and our staff recommend for its wit, its erudite nature, its beauty and literary lyricism.
July 2024
Scaffolding
Our Book of the Month for July 2024 is Scaffolding by Lauren Elkin.
Fitting in beautifully with our currently very French window display, comes, ready for your immense reading pleasure, a debut novel by accomplished writer and translator, Lauren Elkin.
If you loved Emily Perkins' Lioness, or Meg Mason's Sorrow and Bliss, then you will love Scaffolding. Another set of strong female characters at the brink of existence and sanity, marbled with old philosophy and modern psychology. To step into the cliché: Scaffolding does have a certain "Je ne sais quoi". Refreshing!
Embrace everything French with is this month as we showcase Le Tour, the Olympics and the good life.
