The first scientific evaluation of the Maori
Lunar Calendar using mainstream science.
• Does lunar gravity pull on water inside our brains that can lead to dramatic changes in behaviour?
• Is it true that certain lunar phases can generate ‘high’ and ‘low energy’ levels in the human body?
• Does a full moon lead to more crime and mental health crises?
• What evidence is there that good & bad fishing days align with lunar phases?
• Is there a link between the moon and menstruation?
• Why have several New Zealand institutions censored information on the Maori Lunar Calendar?
• Can the Calendar be used to predict the weather?
• Are certain days better for planting and harvesting?
• Does the gravitational pull of the full moon draw moisture to the surface?
• Should Matauranga Maori be given an equal standing with modern science?
For millennia, Maori and their Polynesian ancestors have used the phases of the moon to guide hunting, fishing, planting and harvesting – even health and behaviour. But what is fact and what is folklore? The Science of the Maori Lunar Calendar offers an uncensored glimpse into this history and can be used as a trusted source of information for students and teachers alike. In recent years the Maori Lunar Calendar has become increasingly popular and used to guide everything from fishing and planting, to enhancing health and well-being.
